I have a 1962 F100 unibody with the 292 and 4 speed manual in it that is going to need a rebuild. Been sitting for 30+ years and has low compression. In looking into options to either rebuild the 292 vs swapping in a 302 or 351, I ran across the Mummert 318 stroker kit. It seems I could possibly rebuild the 292 with a stroker kit, 4 barrel carb, and update the generator to an alternator for around the same price I could build a 302 for and not have to worry about fabing motor mounts and transmission crossmembers. Does anyone have experience with stroking the 292? My plan for the truck is a cruise around town vehicle and not a show truck or a hot rod although I would love for it to have some scoot when you get into it.
I think a cam upgrade and a rebuild would get you what you’re looking for without stroking the engine. The cam change will wake up the engine that you will notice. I have a 239 with a 312 crank that now measures 283” and an Isky E 4 cam.

I agree with pintoplumber regarding the cam. Since you are looking at John Mummert's site, you may have noticed the 57+ cam as well as other cams for sale on his site. Another possibility is to install larger intake valves to improve performance along with the cam. If you are serious regarding the stroker kit, there are a lot more parts to buy before you get the engine installed and running.
