I am reinstalling the same torque converter in my C6 that came out of it, anything special I need to do/look for? 1980 F350 DRW
I have the engine, 400, out for a rebuild, so I installed new seals and a TransGo SK6 in the trans. It is getting the same, stock converter and flex plate. I have only installed an auto trans once before, I didn't have any issues, was I lucky or is it a no-brainer? That was a C6 w/ a 351W in a 86 F250.
So long as you remember to turn while pressing in, so that it fully seats, you're good. If you're not sure if it's in all the way; it's not. Keep turning and pressing and you'll feel and hear it seat for it's finale time. If still unsure, just keep spinning for 30 more seconds haha.
If fully installed the studs on the converter should be recessed behind the plane of the bell housing. You can easily check this with a straight edge.
that is to say, you should have to pull the torque converter forward into the flex plate. If the studs are hitting the flex plate when installing the engine (or trans) then the converter is not fully seated and you need to stop.
this is your only real concern. If not fully seated you will destroy the torque converter and front pump on first startup.
