Years ago I changed from the green coolant to the shell ELC over time it has become far less available. When traveling it’s nice to grab the same coolant. What are you guys running ?
Thanks
I believe the ELC will make the water pumps last much longer than the OEM green coolant.
When the truck was new the OEM green coolant was recharged according to Ford maintenance schedule.
This resulted at least 2 new water pumps over several years. I believe the "additive" to refresh the coolant caused this. Over the years I have talked to many PSD owners. None that I spoke to even bothered to add the silicates.
Since the switch to Rotella ELC, no water pump issues for many years and miles. I am at 405k now on the truck.
Note: I have changed out the ELC a few times to reseal the oil cooler. For me, not worth using the old ELC again even though I was still good. I use Shell Rotella ELC concentrate.
Just did mine, Had original green in it. 25 years old. Along with swapping out all the hoses.
We use triax all fleet in our fleet vehicles. So i used it too, found on amazon or Walmart.
Mixed up a couple gallons and through in 5th wheel storage cabinet along with all my other spare parts. Good for another 25 years.
Watch my water pump start leaking now, Can't wait. Thinking i should have left it alone.
