I was wondering if anyone has ran a set of 255/55/18 on their explorer? Stock size is 255/65/18 but i found a good price on the smaller ones in a winter tire. I'm not super familiar with the explorers awd system and sensors and was wondering if installing all 4 of the same size would cause any issues?
They are a little over 1" smaller in diameter. Your speedo will be off just a tad, showing a higher than actual speed. Ditto the odometer.
They will work.
But, IMO, a taller sidewall is your friend when we are talking about offroad or cold weather tire where we are looking at ice, snow, and the resultant hidden curbs and potholes.
I thought they would be ok minus the speedo difference, but i wasn't sure. Im' not really worried about loosing that little bit of sidewall, its still more than what my car has for sidewall and it really never sees any offroading
