So, before winter and the salt/pickle juice brine that is applied before snow hits, I need to protect the door sills, or what ever they may be called, on my 2014 Flex. The car is virtually rust free, only a couple small spots underneath where rust tends to start on all cars. For those, easy peasy, just wire brush and wool wax. The doors however, where the rubberized factory rock coating goes, has been basically stripped off the doors. From the very front edge at least 3.4 back on each door the coating is GONE. Its bare metal, but surprisingly, NO RUST! Looks like galvanized metal.
I have two choices, first would be to just Wool wax them for now, which should protect the metal from rusting, or, repair the paint.
I was considering maybe using Herculiner to coat it, then paint to match with singlestage.
What are some thoughts on this? This car might have 187K miles on it, but the body is in excellent shape. My wifes 2015 Focus has more rust on it on the wheel wells alone than on the entire Flex.
