Going to make my first attempt at repairing door bottoms. I bought lower patch panels for my 77 Highboy. Only going to use as much as I have to. Unfortunately it will be the entire length of the bottom of the door. Is there seam sealer or something supposed to be between the fold lip around the edges or does it just get folded in tight? Any suggestions on this doing this repair is greatly appreciated.
I'm going to assume do not have a lot of experience with this type of fabrication. here's how I did my bottoms of my 55 ,15 years ago. If it has a black epoxy primer grinded off. Clean up the door frame treat it with rust remover with zinc. Coat to the door frame with two coats of the aluminum pigmented permanent Rust sealer. take your patch and coat the edges with the permanent rust sealer while it's wet take a dolly and a hammer and fold it over. Do it gently. The permanent rust sealer has the same resin as Gorilla Glue on the top part of the patch flange the door and glue the top also if you like you can put a couple tack Welds. Coat the entire repair area inside and out sealer and follow it up with primer and paint. Buy a cheap flanger at Harbor Freight for the top of the patch. When you apply the body filler seal it with a permanent rust sealer and Prime and paint good luck and enjoy your education it's a valuable skill you'll use the rest of your life.Be sure to wear rubber gloves!
