What oil do you use?

So I was at Walmart today getting everything I needed for my oil change to find out Walmart doesn't carry the synthetic blend 10w-30 I usually get. UGH. So I thought I'd try a full synthetic and see how the 5.8 takes to it.

I'm just curious to see what you small block guys run. During the summer here it can get over 100 during June and July so I run Valvoline 10w-30 just because it's a bit thicker. I also use Lucas oil stabilizer every oil change and I gotta say it works great. I have switched around a lot but I usually just get the Motorcraft oil filter as well and between all of them I notice no difference.

So to make long story short, what do you guys use every oil change? Any particular brands or products you use? I'm curious to see what you guys use.

I've always been a fan of Valvoline, and I'll buy some for my 5.0 when I change the oil (soon). I use there transmission fluid as well, and I'm hoping i can use their Maxlife ATF in my M5OD, I filled our C6 with it as well.

Me too. I've used Valvoline for years and never once been disappointed with their product.

My Ford gets whatever is on sale and a motorcraft filter. It has 325,000 miles and still going.
My Silverado has 420k miles, it got valvoline and ac Delco filters till 120k then it got orielly house oil and ac delco filters till now, and carries 40 to 50 psi cruising down the road.
Tahoe is getting orielly oil and ac Delco filters.

Any api certified oil and a quality filter is all you need.

I’ve been using Mobil1 in gas engines for about 25 yrs, and RotellaT or RT6 in diesel, and RT6 in some gas engines too. Typically Oem filters, or Mobil1 filters on a couple trucks. No issues. I wait until it’s on sale and pick up extra.

With the quality of oils today, Imo the weights and oci is probably more important than brand for the most part.

Walmart carries Havoline 6qt box for the same price or less than the other name brands so that’s what I have been using. That and a Motorcraft filter.

The Bronco II only takes 5qts so I eventually I end up with a “free” oil change.

Very interesting. I'm curious as to see how this full synthetic works. I've only ever used a blend on my rigs but if y'all are running whatever comes up for sale it can't be too bad. Only thing I've heard about full synthetic is on older motors with leaks they tend to leak more because of the density being a little different. I can say I did notice a difference when I changed the oil this afternoon compared to the blend.

Lots of good posts here, in all reality, modern oils are very good. I would stick to name brand oils (Mobil, Shell, Valvoline, Castrol) mainly for peace of mind, knowing you will get a good oil. (Cheap oil is good too, but it might not be as good)

100% on the quality filter.

Do you know the ratio of synthetic blends? Blends are a huge rip off. There is no standard therefore, it could be as low as 10%, probably lower.

I use Liqui Moly 5w/60 and a Motorcraft filter. When my engine is running, its towing a 5th wheel. 95 F250/5.8/E4OD, 130k miles on the clock.

I didn't know that so I'll definitely keep that in mind. I guess I shouldn't be surprised in this day and age but I guess I've never really researched it.

I have nothing against full synthetic, I've just never used it before. I'm all for it if that's what they want for the future of oil as long as it doesn't F up my engine. I've put some questionable stuff in engines before so it can't be any worse than that stuff.

I don’t care about the ratio. I’d use straight conventional oil if it met the requirement and the price was right but it seems like everything on the shelf is a blend or 100% synthetic.

Bought into it how? That I am supposed to be paying a lot more for oil than I am?

Yeah, it does not matter to me what you put in your engine, but most people think a blend is 50/50. I never have used a blend but I was shocked there is no standard and could be less than 10%. Depends on how honest the company is.
