I got a 94 f150 with a 300I FI and I'm looking for what transmission should I use. I wanna use manuals but i also have Aod and aode avaliable. This was my first truck I ever bought and I made it a 4x4 using the front end, rear end and transfer case from a 1988 f150 so my gear ratio is 3.08. I've read some post and don't really see a answer to my question. I use my truck as a DD and I Tow whenever I need too. I see people say the ZF5, T18 ,T19, Nv4500 (32 spline output, Dodge 3rd gear swap, GM first gear 6.32 ratio), nv5600 and NP435 with a auxiliary OD. I was thinking Nv4500 bc I know people use then in Diesels alot and it would probably hold with the way I drive. My truck is a 300I with a M5OD-R2 with a transfer case I don't remember and it's on 37x13.5x20 20x14. I love the way it looked right now and don't wanna change the motor. I keep getting told put a V8 or 4tb Cummins in in to mo e the tires but I lo e these 300I I got 3 other motors.

ZF5 was used behind the Powerstroke and IDI and can handle plenty stress. I myself like the ZF5 as they seem to have a good name for themselves. A T18 or 19 is going to be geared pretty low so unless you want that I wouldn't recommend it. But if I'm understand this right you have 3.08 gears? If it's got a big lift and tires I would go to at least a 3.50 or a 3.73 but most people would say do 4.10 and be done. That 300 is going to be working overtime to get that truck moving with that type of gearing.
You need to change the axle gearing to get the equivalent of 3.55 gears with 30" tires which was a good overall factory combo for that powertrain, that would be 4.56 gears. A different transmission won't help here.

yeah its only got a 3inch lift and i metal cut the fenders. I figured id swap to 3.55 but i just want to get the Trans issue out the way haha. I got another truck ima take the rear end out of.

the Trans I have now has a big as hole in the side and I have parts trucks for my gears I just wanna see what trans to use first. Ima change gears soon.

Gotcha...I would also like to add that even though the T18 and 19 are geared low they are great transmissions and can handle lots of abuse. I have a T18 behind a 360 FE in my 76 F150 and have abused the **** out of that thing and it never skipped a beat. If you did take that path I would look for a T19 because 1st gear is syncrod where the T18 1st isn't.
The step to 3.55's isn't enough to take the load of the transmission and clutch, some of the early manuals have a granny low 1st but then the jump to 2nd is hugh. The M5OD has nicely spaced ratios plus and OD gear and works just fine in a vehicle that see's truck use but isn't abused, it's biggest drawback is reverse it too high so it works best with higher ratio axle gearing. We have had a series of Rangers here with the M5 in it and the best one of the bunch had 4.10 gears in the axles.. never ever had to slip the clutch with that thing in 1st or reverse. So I'd suggest you just go find another M5 to swap in and then get after your gearing problem, It cost a good chunk of change to regear a 4x4 with new parts so I get that it's not always an option for everybody, I'm just letting you know what works and what you should aim for.... maybe keep your eye out for an axle and D44 pumpkin with 4.10 gears in them, they are more rare but they do exist.
