WD 40 works well. Otherwise, I recommend synthetic sprays - they tend to last longer and don't smell as much.
I do suggest inspecting it though - if it is wearing out or gumming up inside it may be worthwhile to replace it, it is a 25 year old component. There may be nothing wrong with it but it's worth checking into.
