Went to shut the rear door today and it bounced open again. It appears that the latch does not always engage, Has anyone else had this problem and is there an easy fix. Not sure whats involved with replacement but it looks like a pain in the ***.
I don't know if it will apply in this case, but on older vehicles I've seen this happen a lot. Usually after washing the car/truck and wiping out the jamb area a latch would inadvertently get latched closed with the door open. With the latch already closed it would just bounce off the striker pin when attempting to close the door. The fix was easy, just pull the door handle and open the latch with your fingers.
Clean the latch with brake cleaner first to remove old lube. When the lube gets old, it gets sticky and attracts dirt. Then use a spray grease to relube. WD-40, PB Blaster and stuff like that will only work for a little while.
Ok so today I went to close my rear door and no go now i have to tie the door shut from the inside looks like I may need a new latch anyone switched one out before? Any one know where to get one fast?
