Almost had a BAD day today on a trip but turned out ok. Whew
Was 3 hours from home coming back from the middle of nowhere picking up a load and meeting my brother at his house. ..there was some road construction and I hit a rough patch and BAM 💥 I hear this loud pop on my front passenger and grinding with some loss of brake pedal stiffness.. luckily there is a vacant bank lot right there and I pull right in.
I get out and the first thing I see is brake fluid all over the shock and wheel well AND there is definitely grinding in the inner part of the wheel.
Well 💩. My brother is 5 min out and he AGAIN luckily has a floor jack and other tools besides what I carry.
We get the wheel off and the rotor is completely loose...😳
my my... I think I found the culprit... DOH!! Luckily, a part store right down the road and a caliper bolt solved the issue... whew.
Went to Panda Express for dinner across the dinner while waiting for parts... lol
I didn't do the brakes but kick myself anyway. I very trusted friend did. He used to maintain an entire fleet of 7.3's. Shows it can happen to anyone and you need to periodically check stuff. I did notice the new ones came with lock tite... not sure that was on the old ones...
Where did the brake fluid come from if it was just a caliper bolt? I assume the piston could have over stroked but wouldn’t that be a bigger fix than just replacing the bolt?

One is capable of choosing this outlook or the opposite based on many factors. We all have bad days and experiences, how we recover and learn from them sets us apart.
Good to see everything worked out as well as it did and you were able to tell us the story.
had the WHOLE family at my in laws 40 min away waiting to go home too..not in the truck.
i think the wheel is ok because i caught so fast . I only drove it probably 200-300 yards after it happened at low speed.
