Hey Y'all, I'm playing with the idea of trying to install a set of powered running boards on my 1973 F-350 Super Camper Special. I am thinking of maybe buying a used set of Ford Powered (Deployable) running boards fron a later model truck and building the structure under the truck to support them. There are a lot of different candidate models from several venders available, most notably AMP, Tough Truck and of course a set of used Ford stock steps available on the various resale sites. I'm just wondering if anyone on this forum has done it and, if so, was there a particular brand, year, model or type that worked best? What problems did you run into? I'm looking at putting the boards from a crew cab or similar to have them long enough to aid in getting stuff out of the bed. I think the ideal length would be around 80 to 87 inches. Any thought's or suggestions would be welcome.
I did a lot of reading and watched some of the Youtube videos of guys who did it. What I ended up deciding was that, without an OBDII port, it was going to be very complicated, plus it was hard to find a reasonably priced kit. So, I decided to just go with a set of fixed running boards. I have them but have not installed them yet. I couldn't find a set specifically designed for my truck so I ordered a set for a standard cab GM pickup that had brackets that look like they will be the easiest to mount on my truck's underbody with minimal modification..
