Exhaust Question and Part #
Also, at the front where the exhaust connects to the manifold, I have a leak. I hope its the exhaust pipe gasket ( if thats what its called ) and not the actual manifold because those bolts are frozen. When taking it apart where it connects to the manifold, I assume the exhaust pipe just fits into the manifold and there a rubber gasket. Is it possible to replace this gasket / pull the exhaust pipe out to do so - without removing the entire manifold and its 8 frozen bolts ?
They may go by different names in official literature, but if you say exhaust hanger, everyone will know what you’re talking about.
Although there are multiple and many different styles, the one you have is probably the most common and was in use for 40 years and probably more. And probably still is…
it looks like an aftermarket one rather than original at least to me. But the good news is it’s probably available at any reasonably well stocked auto parts store still certainly had an exhaust shop.
I can’t say for your year truck, but many of them in later 70s didn’t use a gasket or “doughnut“ between the pipe and the manifold.
The manifold had a dome shape outlet and the tube had a female flare that slipped around it.
some earlier styles used exhaust “packing“ or donuts made of heat resistant material.
I’m guessing yours is the former style with the dome and the flange. But someone else here that’s more familiar with you or your truck will know for sure.
Or you might be able to tell just by looking.

It's not rubber! Is it possible to replace this gasket Go to an auto parts store or a muffler shop t and get a new exhaust pipe hanger. The original Ford type are obsolete and there's a gazillion different ones.

1) One of the studs came out of the manifold along with its nuts during removal. See photo. I can obviously measure length but if there is a part # or intel on what its replacement is, I would appreciate it. I not finding it by looking up the part # listed in the shop manual ( 376699-S2)
2) How do you separate the exhaust pipe from the manifold and remove old gasket and place new one in there? It has a very small amount of wiggle room. Is the only way to detach all of the exhaust hangers ? Would that even work considering its a Y pipe and the other side ( drivers ) side is still attached to the manifold ?
3 ) Last, to secure the pipe to the manifold, the studs go through a " plate " of some sort which pulls everything together. See photo with red circle. Mine is all beat up and broken and had several washers being used. Again, part # or info ?
Thanks to all, Im a rookie but learning a lot.
