I want to buy a 1988 F250. I talked to the guy who is selling the truck and he told me the auto tranny was an E40D. Seems like I read somewhere that E40D's where put into F250's starting in 1989. Is that right?
Well, IF it has over drive it is an E40D unless someone swapped in an AOD. I dont think ford put the AOD behind the 351, Being a F250,I am betting it is a C-6 for that year.
I'm thinking like c_rossman, that it isn't an OD trans, unless it's been added later and it's a C6. Your better off with a C6 anyway IMHO, heavier duty trans.
I thought it should be a C-6 myself. Thats what I asked him. Anyway, according to Baumann Engineering, if the shifter has a
P-R-N-OD-D-1, its an AOD, if the shifter has P-R-N-OD-2-1 its a E4OD. So I guess its safe to assume if there is no OD its a C-6. I guess.
