Hope you all had a great weekend. Been unseasonably warm recently. Drove by winterplace yesterday and felt bad as it was 60 and there's been no real ski season.
Anyway, I continue to work on vehicle learning lots along the way with my daughters. We tackled interior (sound deadener and insulation) this weekend. And took truck for first drive - not far but far enough to be even more excited.
See video....truck drove great; was loud and ran strong....but then stalled. Had to restart and then restated. Got home then let it sit and started again.
Thoughts (see video) on why stalling? I have the choke **** all the way out because when I start to push it in it starts to sputter...It didnt stall when shifting but I was only in 1st gear. Didnt have enough room to shift to 2nd.
Good Morning Newbie and welcome to the WV Chapter. I will watch the Video this evening and make comments if I see anything!
We like First names around here. Got one? LOL and what area of the State are you located?

Good morning,
Thanks. Appreciate any thoughts/assistance.
Good Wednesday morning Jim, and you are not too far from me. I live just north of Milton!
I can not get the file to open on my end!
I'll try again but in the meantime, I started to clean carb, new fuel lines, etc. Went to start truck it tried to start then nothing...a click.
Then charged battery reinstalled....nothing dead silence so now I'm wondering what it is and I'm a little bummed to be honest. I had such hopes and now I'm worried I don't know what issue is....
alternator, starter switch or ignition switch (are they the same thing), starter solenoid, something else....just don't understand.
Good Morning Jim, and don't be discouraged. It is an electrical problem and I would first look at the cable from the battery to ground and to the starter which goes through the starter solenoid. Do you have power to other things, lights, horn ?
Good morning,
No power to anything else. But I'll go back out today and start with cables, clean posts, etc. and see if I can rebound. I'm hoping you're right.
the positive cable has tape on it; the negative has wires exposed so it's probably something I should just replace anyhow. truthfully there's a lot I should/could replace but not knowing anything about this stuff I'm hesitant to change too much especially when its running...or was. But perhaps I'll just have to bite the bullet, man up and just go for it.
since you're local do you know any good welders/fabricators - I will likely need somebody to weld something in order to anchor 3-point belts.
It sounds like a "Fuse Link" may have burned out if you have no power at all. Ask up in the forum for your year model where it is located so you can check that.
As for welders/fabricators, I have been out of Charleston for 13 years. There was and may still be the shop in Jefferson. On the river side of Route 60 just after you leave Spring Hill!
Walker Machine/Cat in Belle had a Fab shop and may still!

So I went back to truck last night...cleaned just about everything attached to starter solenoid. Put in new battery. turn key to ACC and radio/lights etc. came on so that was encouraging. Turned key and truck started and ran loud and strong. So. loud in fact that wife came out front having heard truck from back porch asking 'why is it so loud?' lol.
That's the good news.
I had also checked lines and replaced fuel line to carb and fuel line to carb. Fuel was coming out - clean. That's good news.
Then I pushed the choke in and it starts to sputter and as I push it in it starts to want to die completely at which point I give it gas and pull it back out and it continues to idle strong. If it dies I just restart truck.
But, I found the part pictured below resting on bottom of engine - obviously fell from somewhere. what is this part? what is this? could this be related to choke/air fuel mixture issue?
So good news is I got some work on fuel lines done, truck starting, but still have choke issue. And now a new mystery part.
Good Saturday morning Jim. That will be a vacuum valve/dashpot of some kind. I can't tell for what and from where but I would say it is the choke pull off dashpot!
