Looking into replacing my stock up pipes. Ive been looking around, and the price differences are crazy. So… What is your suggestion on manufacturer and why? Here’s what I’ve seen.
On Diesel Orings site they have a set of IH bellowed up pipes, collector, bolts and gaskets for $1,030.00.
RiffRaff has 2 different sets and 3 options. Looks like riffraff’s house brand in stainless for $400.00 or ceramic coated for $550.00. They also offer BD Diesel set for $421.00, all with collectors, bolts and gaskets.
1023 Diesel has a set of FullForce Diesel up pipes, collector, bolts, and gaskets for $150.00…
Then there is the Amazon/eBay options… but I’m not real keen on that route, unless someone has a trusted buyer…
The cheap ones work just fine. I have had a set of Rudy's diesel performance on mine for 6 years or so and never had a issue. I think they can be had for around $100. I had a buddy that worked there at the time and got them for $60.
I ran Dorman up-pipes for several years without any issues. When I upgraded to a T4 kit and turbo I sold the up pipes to another FTE'r near me. He is still running them 4+ years later.
Up pipes is one of those things that you can usually go cheap on. Just test fit the components first before installing them.
Bellowed up pipes are a great way to breath life back into the engine.
Full Force pipes are probably the same as the cheap Amazon/eBay units.
I’ve installed 2 sets of cheap sets without issue. Mine were $120 “AlphaDog” brand from Amazon. Dad went as cheap as I could find him. Something for like $60 on eBay. The quality difference between them was minimal. Casting seemed slightly cleaner on mine. I took a dremel to his before installation.
Some folks have had issues with the pin location. That’s why you test fit before installing.
Uppipes is a good place you can save some money.
That said, if I wanted “the best” I would chose Riffraff. I have no question that his parts are better quality. But it’s an item where it’s not really needed and a failure wouldn’t be critical.
This is a pleasant surprise! I was sure everyone was gonna point me towards IH or RiffRaff. Looks like I’m ordering up pipes sooner than I thought. Thank you everyone for your responses and information!
I'll be doing the same on both our trucks shortly. What I've noticed is the cheap $55 units are steel. For a little more money...$85...you can get stainless units. I am thinking the original oem units are stainless.
