Expected delivery timeline for custom tunes....what should i do now
Second, with that said, I have been working with a popular tuner for several weeks for tunes to go on my Excursion described in my signature below. I was working with this tuner in advance of installing my new parts to make sure it would be ready for when I bolted everything on. I had a few issues most notably that my edge connector was jacked up from a previous owner and I wasn't able to validate the first calibration right away since I had to send my PCM off to have that repaired (my repair was unsuccessful). This caused a delay as I got the PCM back and did not hear back from this tuner in time for me to bolt everything together. Once I finished though, it did start up and idle and we were able to drive it around though there was a about a 500rpm hunt in the idle and a list of DTCs that seem to be likely related to the fact its a stick swap truck. It should be noted the PCM is hard flashed from DPTuner in 2018 with an 80hp stock injector tune for the stick swap that worked perfectly for 30k miles.
Ever since I completed the mechanicals the weekend before thanksgiving, it has been difficult to get communication. There was a week for thanksgiving I was very patient assuming vacations, then another week passed and apparently the family was sick which I can fully understand and wait for. Again I'm trying to be very patient here and appreciate the few people who are still around supporting 7.3 projects with parts and services. For a couple weeks now I assumed I could get a proposed fix for the DTCs and the idle hunt before getting the additional tunes. On current the base/stock tune provided (whatever terminology) the truck is pretty much about as fast as my 1982 Peugeot 505 turbodiesel with 70hp so it mainly just sits in the driveway the last month. I have about 200 miles on it and everything seems to be fine beyond the DTCs and idle issue but I am not making any more progress on getting what I feel I had originally paid for. I can understand needing to catch up on business after thanksgiving and stuff, but I feel like I should've been the front of the line considering when I paid was back in end of October.
So my question is, am I becoming unnecessarily impatient? Is my application with the stick shift excursion more complex than I imagined plus the single shot injectors? I'm tempted to get tunes elsewhere in the meantime just so I can see what changes and have something but don't really feel like spending more money for God-knows-what. At this point I'm like 10k into this project as is so should I continue to wait it out indefinitely? I want the DTC's and idle ironed out and then want to try some higher powered tunes and am 2x a week or so asking for updates but just not getting anywhere at all and just kinda at a loss as you can see by my rambling.
When it's something like tunes, that require personal attention to detail I tend to be much more forgiving than I am with a product that simply needs to be put in a box and sent on its way.
Human fallibility being what it is, I'm going to suggest attempting to have a conversation with them first and trying to see what can be worked out. I would imagine they are feeling the pressure in addition to their daily concerns
from less understanding customers, and it does appear that you have been understanding.
I don't think you're being impatient, you can't imagine how I am when I get a shipping notification and the tracking shows it's sitting there for a week.
Being that your order goes back to oct, see if they can bump you up and get yours done and out of the way. I would think the time frame justifies that much.
