1987 Fuel System

Hello, I'm new to the forum!

Need assistance with 1987 F250 4x4 Fuel System. We have the 1st year 5.8 Liter Carburetor Model. LMC Trucks seems to have the most available, but not exactly what we seem to need.
The fuel sending unit is a dual pipe unit on the rear tank, and side tank with quick connect hoses running to the selector switch.

Not seeing a listing for the dual pipe sending unit, Also have a few question regarding the side tank and fuel hoses, but wanted to focus on the rear sending unit 1st.

First year Carburetor? I think 1987 was pretty much least year for Carb engines.

1986 they started to switch over to EFI So 1985, 1986 could be one or the other by build dates.

Pretty much everything with dual tubes on sending unit is EFI as carbonated does not normally have a return like the EFI does.

That being said LMC sending units for a 1987-1991-ish should be fine with a dual tube. Some of the 1991 different sending unit as change was made late 1991 to the fuel system and took full affect in the 1992's

There are many parts websites online. LMC is a good one for some hard to find items.

Thank you for the feedback - information. Yes, the 1st year on this one was with carburetor. The fuel lines and sender definitely resemble EFI set-up

Are you saying first year because it is the first year of that body style? As OhioFordFarm previously stated, it is the the last year for a carbureted truck. Look at an ‘86 or even an ‘85 fuel sending unit to see if it is what you need.

Yes, Last of the carburetor models, 1st on the body style. Thanks for the input... Thought that possibly the 86' model would be a working option

Seems odd for a carb'ed 5.8L engine truck to have a dual pipe rear sending unit. I would have expected a single pipe with an engine mounted mechanical fuel pump. I also thought the 1987 model year 5.8L truck went EFI? I believe the 1987 7.5L trucks were still carb. I may be off by one model year for each.

If the truck is a factory carb'ed model then perhaps someone else has installed the wrong sending unit/pump? There was a hot fuel handling package for the 7.5L carb'ed trucks that added in tank pumps, a vapor separator and a block off plate for the engine mounted mechanical pump. Those did use a dual pipe sender/pump assembly, Part# E5TZ-9H307-FA, since there is a return line just like the higher pressure EFI systems.

1987 was the last year for a carbureted 351W and 460.
