Napa dosnot show a fuel sending unit for a 85 f150 I6 w/ 16gal tank. They show one for an 87 . Any body know if they are the same? Is an 87 sending unit the same as a 85 ?. Thanks
There are lots of variables. Carbed, carbed with a return, fuel injected, they are all different setups. I would check around a little bit more. I would imagine your truck is carbed where a 87 would be fuel injected.
P.S. I just remembered, the 87-up gauges work differently, and take a different value sending unit, and they also work backwards from the 86-down sending units.
Thanks dave i'll try a different parts store . I wonder if the sending unit is repairable. I'll pul it out and look at it but probably go with a new one if i can find one. And yes it is carbed i'll change my sig. thanks
I just went through the same thing you are going through with your sending unit. I ended up purchasing mine from LMC Trucks for around $69.00, $83 with shipping and it was here (SC) in two days. I ended up replacing the entire fuel system (tank, sending unit, manual fuel pump) because the tank was rusted through, leaking and in bad shape.
I ordered my tank from Advance Auto for $99 and the only thing that was different was the notches for the sending unit. From what I understand, you won't have that issue. My tank was made by Spectra and was model F14B and should have been F14D.
More info than you wanted, but LMC had the better price on a sending unit.If you find a better price, let me know. To read more about tanks and sending units, here is a link smashclash put together a while back when he replaced his 16 gallon side mounted tank. Good info.
