I guess in an effort to steal a little of Ford's thunder, Chevy introduced the 2024 Silverado HD. Significant upgrades to the interior, and a full makeover for the front clip. But the interesting thing is in the powertrains. The 6.6L gasoline engine drops the 6-speed automatic for the 10-speed Allison... good move. But the revised Duramax didn't quite reach the numbers that had been rumored. Power increases from 445/910 to 470/975, when the rumors were 1085 lb-ft.
boss went to pick up the caddy for his wife to replace the one that caught on fire and burned to a blob of aluminum on the roadside last december.
$135,000. plus $35,000 premium markup over list price.
needless to say, he told them to pound sand and bought a new loaded explorer instead for $52,000.
crazy part is the salesman told him if he backs out of the deal, there are 5 people waiting to buy it.
just proof positive there are idiots out there with more money than brains.
One new feature that should generate interest... the 2024 Silv 3500 offers 18 inch wheels on the DRW trucks for the LTZ and High Country trims, with LT235/80R18E tires from Michelin. This is the first wheel diameter increase in the 350/3500 DRW class in over 20 years.
The biggest questions, are they being delivered? can one be purchased without an ADM, if ordered how long for true delivery? If products are actually not available, or you must pay a huge (for me any) ADM or you'll have to wait for as much as a year, it is just noise. If GM (chevy) is actually delivering, and one can be had without an ADM, ford had better get their S**& together, a lot of buyers can't wait for a new HD truck, and/or are sick of waiting for a truck that just never seems to be available.

These are 2024s and won't go into production until spring 2023. The 2023 Silverado HD has been in production for several months, but like Ford and Ram, GM is experiencing the same issues with suppliers, production, shipping, and maintaining inventory.

I think Chevy scheduled a short 2023 MY with the 2024's going into production 2nd. quarter 2023.

Sounds like Ford may be doing the same thing.
All I hear over and over is that the Ford SD 23 MY is going to be much shorter................which means.......they are going to drop the 24 before mid year 23.

All of it is so odd.
I tend to agree with you. What is funny is that GM made almost no changes to the 2023 HD's, so I would expect 2023 to be a short MY for them with big changes coming in the 2024MY. Ford substantially revised their 2023's, why would they bring their 2024's out early? More changes coming?
The engines in these trucks produce more HP and torque than most buyers really need. Nice to have, but far beyond requirements. So instead of a regular and a Hi-Po tune, I'd like them to come out with a regular and an Eco tune. There are a lot of people out there that will gladly give up 50 HP and 100 ft-lbs. for an extra couple of MPGs.
But the advertise wars on these trucks is all about HP and torque, not MPGs.
I tour my local Chevy dealer every now and then, not much is HD and they have a 90 day supply on the lot, 10 fleet cab and chassis were across the street. Then I spotted the ugliest vehicle ever produced in America just behind the AMC Pacer.
In person this thing is hideous, Red accents on the Tow hooks and BowTie, topped off with a fake plastic cowl. Made no sense to me knowing GM has a good choice of paint to choose from.
Just did the dual belt setup on an LP5 6.6 Duramax the other day, it was a nightmare. You have to unscrew the radiator fan off the water pump to get the short/wide belt on, will not fit around the fan blade to get it over to the pulleys. One of the worst designs ever. At least the Tacoma belt you can get around the fan to install it.
