I HAVE A 2022 F-350 DIESEL.
In my previous SuperDuty, I had a jump starter device I kept charged for a possible emergency.
I used it for other people many times. THAT DEVICE IS NOW PAST ITS LIFE AND IS DEAD.
MY QUESTION: How much Cranking Power do I need for my 2022 Diesel?
Does anyone out there have a jump starter device they recommend?
i have the JNC 12-24. actually we have 4 of them. 1 in the shop, one in my truck, 1 in the service truck, and one in the bossmans truck. all are at least 4 years old. two are 8 years old.
we use them for everything. the 550's, rollers, excavators, skid steers, and the 15 liter diesel "big trucks"
You will need at least 1500 amps available from your jumper. you will need a device with a 2,000 amp rating. Mine was an older device rated at 1,000 amps but I recently found out that they were actually delivering a lot less than the 1,000 amps. So,,, I guess I will be shopping for a new one too.
I have gone through several over the years. Amazon always has a product with a low price, and advertised as very powerful. Some work. Although you can't tell because the reviews are unreliable. The low cost ones I have tried all had finite useable life. After awhile, they stop taking a charge, holding a charge, or simply won't jumpstart a low battery even if the device says that it's full and ready. I have about a dozen of these useless bricks that I use for doorstops and paperweights.
The one product line that I do like, and recommend, is NoCo. The current charger sold by Harley is a NoCo with a Harley label. Harley used to sell Deltran Battery Tender. Deltran makes decent products also. Look into a good battery charger also. If you plug in a battery charger overnight, you may not need to jumpstart the battery in the morning.
In the days when I was shoeing dinosaurs, and driving on square wheels, the best jump starters with lead acid batteries were made by Clore. They were also very expensive, and very heavy. These days, the best units are still very expensive. You can buy a low priced unit from Amazon or eBay, for less than $100. Or you spend a lot more for something better. But at least they are lighter now. No more 40 to 50 pound jump packs.
HOLY CRAP BATMAN! I know Schumacher chargers have always been expensive...good quality though.... I have had a (NAPA labeled) 8 amp charger for 25 years and it's still excellent! My nefew needed a jump the other week, and his jaw dropped when I came with jumper cables...... these were ones that I made up back in the late 70's when we were in another one of the economic crashes and the jumper cables were about as cheap of quality as you could get- and short too- barely 8' IIRR..... went to the welding shop who sold 100 amp+ arc welding cable by the foot and 4 color coded ground clamps and low and behold.... 25 foot long high quality jumper cables were born......and still really work excellent today (even though I have not used them in 10+ years)... and the extra length.... makes it really easy to jump just about anyone anywhere!
Yeah the micro lith-ion jumper units are cool.... but for me, not at those prices
Oh, and before somebody ask I'll say it.... the clamps were $4 each and the cable was $1 per foot IIRR. Expensive in the day as that was about what the top end jumper cables were going for, but even the high end units didn't have the reach!
