6.2 Whine from front of engine

I have a 2016 F250 with a 6.2 and I am starting to hear a whining sound coming from the front of my engine that is slowly and progressively getting louder. I believe it is my water pump given that the truck has 183k miles and from what I understand that is longer then the typical life expectancies for a water pump on these engines.
My question is if anyone can possibly try to confirm my suspected culprit for this sound with the limited information provided, and if it is not the water pump, what direction I should start heading in figuring out this noise? If it is in fact the water pump, I understand it is a pretty straight forward task to replace, but are there any additional “while your in there” parts I should consider replacing while I have the front of the engine exposed.
I should also mention the whine does get louder as the rpms increase, and I did not notice any coolant leaking in my brief inspection. I also do not think this is a power steering related sound as there is not leaks and my fluid level has not changed, however I do not want to rule that out completely.

I would remove the belt and roll all the accessories by hand to check for roughness, locking up, or play. before I assumed anything, It might not be a bad idea to replace the water pump, and all belt idlers and tensioner. You might also change the alternator if the bearings are rough.

Generally your belt tensioner and idler pulleys will be making rude noises long before the alternator, water pump, power steering pump or AC compressor.

So I finally got around to taking off the belt and and spinning my accessories. I always assume the worst so i appreciate the obvious diagnostic tips that I didn’t think of.

There seems to be a little play in my idler pulleys but I don’t know if some play is typical or would cause this sound. Everything else seemed normal except power steering. It was smooth but turned less easily then my alternator. I am going to assume this is normal because it is pumping fluid as I’m turning?

I am going to start with my idler pulleys and then tensioner and go from there.

The '17+ forum is littered with complaints of the fan clutch making a whining noise. I actually stumbled upon a video the other day...searching....got it

Anyway your idlers may not have play but if you can spin them by hand and they sound dry like skate board wheels that's also bad. Usually these bearings dry out long before they develop slop.

If your idlers are steel you can press in new 6203 or 6303 bearings, just be sure to get 2RS (double rubber seal)

One thing to remember about the idler / tensioner pulleys……..they work real good until they fail. When they fail you WILL be sitting alongside the road. If it has play, replace it now while you have the belt off. Your whine just might go away too.

Yes, I think you're heading in the right direction. The noise is probably from the idler pully that has some play.

Also correct, the power steering pump will have more resistance than the alternator. Good observation.

Changed the idler pulleys and tensioner and it fixed my issue. Thanks to everyone who steered me away from tearing apart a perfectly good water pump.
