Looks like a pretty cool auction, too bad it's an online only auction. First you'd have to go there to check out stuff and then make a second trip to pick any item you buy after the auction ends. It's a 4 1/2 hour, 280 mile one way trip for me. With the price of gas it's not worth it.

There is some nice stuff there. How about that M-H boom truck?

Stu, are you gonna go? How far is Central Illinois from the auction?

Hopefully Stu or one of the other M-H gurus will pop in. Especially to comment on the axle, is it good for parts? That's one of those items that could be worth a lot if you know what you're looking at and not work much more than scrap if you don't. I've gotten quite a few parts at auctions that no one at the auction, not even the auctioneers, knew what they were. I've bought parts in the $2-10 range and sold them for literally 50 times more than what I paid for them. I've even had people laugh at me after winning a low bid thinking I just bought junk. Little did they know.

BTW, it's about the same distance for Stu as for me. If it wasn't an online only auction I'd go to see what was there and maybe bring something home but I'm not going to make two trips.

There was mention of this auction on the Ford Barn recently. The comment from the poster - who seemed to have first hand knowledge - that was problematic indicated that the flathead engines had all been 'under water'. I didn't ask for details but anyone here should be aware and leary.

The M-H wrecker apparently did/does run.

Comment from member 5851a:

The engines have been under water, one is from a Lincoln and other from an F7. I think the Lincoln one had a power steering pump removed but still had a bracket or 2 last I saw. The wrecker I have driven in the past and knew the Mercury the engine it came from. For those that doubt the high rpms of a flathead, been there listened to that.

No interest here, and a long drive. The F-5/6 boom truck looks interesting but not worth chasing after. The axle is a spare for that truck, or another the same size. No thanks. Stu

Maybe you can get somebody somewhat local to check on it for you (obviously someone that’s not going to bid against you on a particular item).
