6 Codes (At the moment)

I have a 2001 F350 with 6.8 V10. I have 6 codes (sometimes 8). Truck runs great and them "something" happens and sets it off again. OD starts flashing, truck goes into limp mode. I pull over, shut down, restart and runs fine again. Codes this time are:P0340, P0453, P0113, P0708, P0123 and an evap sensor code. I have replaced the transmission range sensor and the cam shaft sensor to no avail. Replace the PCM ran great for about 100 miles and acted up again. Found the output speed sensor harness had a bare wire - made the repair and again, after about 100 miles threw all the same codes. Took to Ford and they let the battery die and lost the codes - sent it home said it was running fine. Nope threw all the codes again. I am at a loss. Replace the PCM again and hope for a better outcome? Anyone else had this series of codes? Also, the alternator voltage is steady at 14.

It's highly unlikely that the PCM is (or ever was) the issue. Most likely, you have an intermittent wiring or circuit fault that is in a section of the circuits that is in common for all of the components tagged by the DTCs.

You really need to go back and get the rest of the fault codes so as complete a picture as is possible is available.

BTW, is this a California (OBDII) emissions truck? Check the sticker on the underside of the hood to verify. It's important to the diagnosis.

Just ran the codes again - got a bunch of new ones today:
P0113
P0123
P0340
P0708
P0713
P1000
P1289
P1702

Before the PCM change out there were differnt codes and the truck did not go into limp mode, just cut out in both in reverse and drive. So the PCM change did not fix it, just changed it - just can't figure out what could link all the codes other than the PCM. The sticker does indicate it is the California OBD II truck. Also previously changed out the Transmission Output and Input, Transmission range & Camshaft position sensors.

There was one more but I do not recall the P #, it was cylinder head temperature sensor high Input.

Okay, that's the P1289 DTC. Got it accounted for.

You have an open in the SIGNAL RETURN (SIG_RTN) circuit for the PCM and ALL of those sensors or switches. Given more time, you'd likely pop another code or two but that's not needed.

First thing to do is disconnect the PCM connector and inspect pin 91 on both the PCM and the harness connectors looking for damage of any kind.

After that, it will get more difficult and will require the use of a multi-meter to make circuit checks as well as diagrams.

The open could be internal or external to the PCM. Trying to remember if there's a bonding connection inside or outside of the PCM that connects the SIG_RTN to chassis ground. Maybe someone with that detail will chime in. I'm thinking it's internal but also relies on external connections. Been a while since I poked around this circuit.

ProjectSH089 - Thank you for all the valuable information! You have given me a direction to move.

Does anyone out there in cyber world have a wiring diagram for this truck? I have been searching diligently and cannot locate this one.

Thank you SO much for your help!
