I have put together a turbo kit for my 2002 F-250 5.4 2V. The truck idles and revs fine in park. Stock maf stock injectors. I opened the wastegate as far as it would go (makes about 1-1.5 psi) to try and limp it home from my grandfathers house. I got about a mile down the road and was going up a hill when the truck shut itself off. So I put it in park and started it back up. Started driving while looking at the boost guage, as soon as it hit 1psi the truck bogged and when I let off it died again. Truck will start and idle perfect but does not like boost. Is this simply an issue of tuning or could it be stock maf, stock gapped plugs? Any advice would be appreciated. If this thread needs to be moved to another section let me know.
Nobody will be able to tell you why the truck shut down without having any data that was recorded WHEN the problem took place. Guesses end up wasting time and money.
You need a tune. Once you start building boost you go outside the ecus's stock adjustment capabilities. Once that happens you start running lean, which can burn an engine up pretty quickly. I've seen way too many posts over the years of someone who boosted a 4.6/5.4, didn't get a tune right away, then broke a piston the first time it went lean under boost and detonated. The stock pistons can't really take any abuse.
Assuming you're running reasonable boost, say 6-8 psi, a tune can be done around the stock injectors and MAF, but it's not gonna be optimal.
If you want to take full advantage of the extra airflow, I'd step up up to 24lb/hr injectors and a 80mm MAF.

Sorry I wasn’t trying to say that’s all I’d want the truck to make, I was trying to limp the truck back to my house and figured the safest was (except trailering) was to open up the wastegate to make minimal boost. The truck is not tuned and I’m having a hard time finding somebody to tune it, seems most people around me use HP Tuners which is said to not work on my pre can bus f250

I would need to get a base tune I would assume then, then a dump tune.

Try these guys for a tune, they really know the 2v's. I believe they use SCT software. They can probably get you a good enough tune right out of the box with just some basic info on how it's built and any mods.

The website seems to be down, might want to look up the FB page
How much boost are you looking to make?
For now probably just around 5psi, I have another motor that I took out of the truck when I bought it that I would like to mildly build before going any higher than that. The truck (2002 F250 XLT 5.4 4x4) has mostly just been a learning experience, bought for $800 motor locked up, transmission bad. Pulled a junkyard motor and rebuilt it and put a Lkq transmission in it. Also swapped in a 2010 dash and a 2015 center console. The problem is I can’t seem to stop when it’s running good.
Would be interested in the kit you built if you could share more info! There's not many running boost on the gasser platform which is a shame. The biggest issue will be tuning, which you likely already know, I was recently looking into this and couldn't find anyone that currently tune the platform. I seen where they use to but has since gave up on it, likely cause there wasn't a big enough market to keep investing in. Anyways keep up posted on your progress.
