Just found bench seat frame to restore for my 49 F1. I want to reupholster with stock brown naugahide leather same as what came off assembly line. Where can i find this fabric?
Macs sells what’s supposed to be OEM, for our trucks but IMO isn’t even close to the original feel. I have some of my original seat vinyl from 52 and it had a good texture to it. You could tell it was a quality vinyl. I’d recommend sourcing out quality vinyl from a good supplier. Try to find one with a leather texture to it. The macs stuff is smooth.
You are the expert for the 52s but the original material for the 48-50s was smooth. The Cartouche version has withstood my rump wear for 10+ years without any issues.
Vinyl actually wasn’t my first choice, I opted for a wool broadcloth after seeing some of the early ford fabrics used in the model T’s. Found a great deal on a hard wearing wool direct out of a British mill for the same cost as cartouche’s vinyl.
But I think I’ve seen the textured vinyl on original 48-50 seats too? Anyone have any original seats? Happy to hear your rumpus is happy.
Thanks everyone. That’s exactly what im looking for. Do these kits come already sewn together and fitted to a standard seat frame? Can a do it yourselfer install a kit?

Yes, the fabric is sewn together and the kit includes padding, hog ring pliers and hardware. The pliers are kind of flimsy so you might want to get a better pair. I did it myself without any experience.

Thanks. Thought i was gonna have to have professional upholsterer do it.
Bob, you can DIY it . The hog ring pliers as stated are junk . Get a good set . It requires many hog rings . Follow the instructions carefully . Use all components . Best to let it sit in the sun for awhile before installation . It worked great for me . 3 shops said that the cover I had was not the right one & would never go .If you do not want to do the job just tell me so . I would have been ok w/ that so I did it my self . No point deductions so far as the truck has earned 3 AACA National awards .
54-56 trucks had the new "breathable, washable woven nylon" fabric as the Ford literature said. But there was vinyl around the sides and depending on the year, across the front and across the top of the back. I have noticed the original red vinyl has more grain than the new stuff.
I have the same complaint about the reproduction headliner and kick panels for 53-56 trucks. The original cardboard has a definite grain to it while the repopped stuff is just cardboard painted gray.

yes always amazed at how many little things they improved in 54,55, etc.
In 51/52 the five star extra cab headliner is another reproduction missed opportunity as it was perforated with many little dots. They even illustrate it in brochures.
..my seat is a lot cooler now that I installed a heater shut off valve anyway! 😂

If I had a Deluxe Cab (53-54) or a Custom Cab, which was first named in 55, I would be ticked that I couldn't buy the perforated headliner.
