Hey fella’s, my ‘00 7.3 has 340k on the clock. I’ve completed a few of the minor mods mentioned here, but nothing related to major power increases. Due to the trucks age, I’m concerned the CAC boots might be nearing replacement (they are stock). None have any holes I can find, but there’s some oil on the bottom of ya run your fingers across them.
I was going to pressurize the system and look for leaks. I built a “plug” with an air hose connection to put in the intake tubing. But, the only problem I see is it will not pressurize the turbo, tubes, intercooler, etc because it bleeds air into the crankcase via the tube that attaches to the drivers side valve cover. How are you all stopping air loss there during pressurizing the system.
and, what’s your suggestions on CAC boot replacement? Is there specific times to replace, or other reasons besides the obvious hole / leak?
With 340 k I would replace the boots and clamps. I have riff raff and Mishimoto boots both great products. Additionally you might as well buy the riff raff plenum inserts they really help a ton!!! Better to replace a tired part than run it until there’s problem. Definitely worth doing a boost leak test though if you want to confirm/ check the system. Seems the stock boots become hard and brittle with age thus not sealing as well.
Another vote for RiffRaff boots. Get the clamps to go with those too. I think RiffRaff sells all of it as a set to save you the trouble of mixing and matching.
