I know I'm opening a can of worms but, fuel and oil additives.......

So, a lot of people run two stroke oil in their fuel as an additive because of the new low sulfur diesel. I was reading that some people prefer atf. What do you guys think? For some reason I cannot get any of the additives that you guys use in my area except maybe diesel kleen or 911. Or some stuff like seafoam or whatever. I would like to run some kind of additive in my fuel because of the ULSD. And as for the oil additives, I have not had any good luck with the additives that I used. I've heard Hot shot stiction remover is pretty good but, are oil additives really necessary on these trucks? I believe I've talked about this in the past but it's been a while and I haven't used any additives since I put my new injectors in. Neither fuel or oil.

Maybe Bitterroot can chime in and give me some advice on what the injectors would prefer.

Can of worms officially open for all of the seagulls to flock in and start pecking at!

There are likely hundreds of write-ups on this subject.. However

I have a collection of quart bottles that get recycled from the transmission fluid exchange last year and when used go in a box until I make up the next batch.
10 ounces of Power Service white jug or gray jug depending on conditions then top off with two stroke for each about 30 gallons of fuel top off in the tank.

Each gallon of two stroke makes about seven quarts of mix, so two gallons of two stroke for each gallon of Power Service.

Works for me, never had any issues and it may or may not be doing good for the engine but I feel better doing it. Never have had any fuel issues in any climate.

The basic rule of thumb with a 7.3;
Fuel additive = yes
Oil additive = No!

6.blow yes to both,
6.4 doesn't matter. Time bomb regardless

I am not a fan of oil additives in general. Especially not on a 7.3.

For the fuel,
I have ran Power Service in the past off&on. This is what was available at the local parts store.

There was a thread on this subject recently which linked a lubricity comparison.
After doing a little studying I plan to run the Optilube XL or Summer blend. They seem to be the best bang for buck. I haven’t ordered yet though because my truck is a garage queen in the salty winter.

You can get it in your area… shipped. https://bitterrootdiesel.com/collections/fuel-additive

Snake oil IMO. Seems the best performance comes by making the owner feel warm and cozy about adding something "extra" to the fuel. I've ran some in the past, cant tell when it's been added but can tell when it hasn't...cost savings.

Diesel 911 if you get in a pinch and have gelling issues. On a whole though, never use anything. 7 diesels engines of varying sizes that are all run regularly.

Yes, Opti-lube in every tank. Typical mileage savings will pay for the product. Increased lubricity will extend the life of the injector components. StickionRx is designed for the HEUI system. Most beneficial for the 6.0, but it'll help with the 7.3 also. We ship worldwide.

Opti-lube works better and the treatment actually cost less than two stroke oil.

So, I want to use optilube. Although, I sure was looking for something I could buy locally cheap. Like two-stroke oil at least for when I'm out of optilube. Will two stroke oil be fine if I run out of optilube? I'm sure it's not as good but I'm sure it still does something to help with lubrication. I know it keeps my chainsaws running for 20 years. I know that's not a good comparison. Too many variables. I can get a quart of 2-stroke oil for $3. That's what I was doing in the past before I swapped injectors. One quart of two stroke oil to a tank of diesel. Is there anything wrong with that per se?

I will get around to ordering some of the Opti lube from you when I can. Too many other things going on right now. Trying to get ready for the trip to Georgia and I'm working all week including weekends. I do understand that the optilube will pay for itself with the fuel mileage saving but, I just don't want to spend the money right this minute because of the upcoming trip to Georgia. Due to some other issues I have been having some financial troubles but, I still want to go to the GTG. Actually, I am going to the GTG. But I just have to be careful of my spending until I get back. Mostly because I will be renting a cabin this go around. after the trip more than happy to start buying Opti lube from you!

You can check their website to see if there are local dealers in your area. You may save money not paying shipping.

The oil additives wont hurt anything but generally are considered a waste of money for this engine. I did an archoil treatment on my first oil run with T6 not knowing any better and noticed no real world improvement after leaving it in there for nearly 7k miles. (It did show up on the Blackstone report though.)

Fuel additives are a good idea. I think a dedicated lubricity product like Optilube XL or Stanadyne Lubricity is the most important, especially on common rail motors with a high pressure fuel pump and doubly so if your truck has one of those crappy CP4 pumps, but it lowers wear and tear on injector hard parts on older trucks like ours as well. Personally I try to stay away from anything with anti-gel in it unless circumstances really call for it, and that wouldn't be often in Alabama. Usually the fuel that comes out of the pump is winterized enough in the colder half of the year where ever you live to keep from freezing up, and in the warmer half of the year it's a total waste of money.

How do you get Optilube summer blend in the tank? At 3000:1 ratio, is it a capful? Or do you put a little bit (one pump?) in these 4oz bottles to make it easy to dispense at fillup?

I've been toying with making the switch to optilube from 2 cycle oil - I currently use a pint per half-tank.

Wondered what rate - standard or premium - is comparable to the 8oz per 20 gal concentration I'm using for 2 cycle oil.

It's really splitting hairs for me on the cost - availability/convenience is more of a driver.

That XL product looks tempting to me - with the most lubricity.

Set up the little containers for the dose of your choice. If your treatment rate is low you can dilute with diesel before treating your tank. Poor bottle in and fill with diesel to mix in your tank.

it says 1-2 oz per 20 gallons on the website or 2-4 oz for 40, so it’s suggesting up to 1 oz per 10.

I’d do half a 4oz bottle on a 20-25 gallon fill and call it close enough.
