5.4L 3v replacement

Hello everyone. I'm new to the page and finally need some help. I have a 2008 F250 5.4L 3V 4X4 auto with 272k on the counter. I really like this truck. It has a clean frame and drive train which is huge in Central NY where the salt is applied to the roads faster than they can mine it! I have taken care of a lot of the steering and suspension over the past year. I mount an 8' service body on it. I put a 9'2" Boss v-blade on the front. I did all of the maintenance. I replaced the manifolds a week ago. Now, I've had ignition issues off and on for a year. Got that all ironed out. Less than 2 miles after doing the manifolds, I dropped #5. Got home, 5 miles, and had dropped #7. Compression test says FUKT! Borescope confirms. What model years van I interchange? Can I use a 5.4 from a 150? I know that the wiring for the coils and injectors is different for some but I'm not concerned about that. I thought I read somewhere that a late production 04-10, maybe, F150 5.4 would work? Expedition? Anyway, what model years and models will interchange for me? And what about a V10 swap? I know where there is a 2008 complete truck available with a busted frame for a 1k. Would it be worth it? I'd have all the computers and wiring from the donor. Let me know, and thank you for your time!

So I swapped a 6.2 boss motor for the 5.4 and if I found the 6.8 your looking at I would have paid 5k just to avoid the mountain of bs I went through. I would go with the v10, I believe it’s a straight forward swap. Avoid all but the latest 5.4s if that’s the route your going. My friend has a 2010 with 70k miles and that 5.4 is making worrying sounds already. So just be wary and do your homework.

yes the engine will interchange with one redesign. Ford changed the head design in 2008 because of the spark plug issue. Which is good new no more 2 piece spark plug iirc. When you are doing the swap be mindful of your sensors I am 99% sure they are the same, it doesn’t hurt to check first. Don’t toss anything until it’s good and running and let us know how you make out 🫡
