Hood won't stay up

Hi everyone, just joined recently and just took home a '65 F100. Very clean truck but I do have a few things to work on of course.

First problem is my hood won't stay open. I tried searching around but most of the posts I found were related to hood alignment when closed. Mine closes fine, latches fine, everything looks as it should when it's closed. It just won't stay open more than about a foot or so on its own.

Is that likely to just be worn springs? And am I likely to create these hood alignment issues when replacing them (keeping in mind I am a newbie to these trucks)?

Obligatory truck photo:

The springs and the hinges are reproduced. You may have to remove the hinges to safely install new springs. hood spring Dennis Carpenter Ford Restoration Parts for Trucks, Broncos, Cars, Tractors and Cushman Scooters (dennis-carpenter.com)

Check out the Astronaut’s thread. He rebuilt the old hinges, because the aftermarket ones didn’t fit. Others here have had the same issue.

Looking at the picture it appears the hood is closing like it should. If the hinges are bad the hood will sit high in the back. If you remove the hood, just use some masking tape to mark where the hinges are now and when you put it back you should be within fractions of an inch of the same spot. Look at the hinges where they bolt to the cowl, if they are all the way down in those slotted holes the hinges are pretty worn but should still last a good while. Also, a good sign the hinge is worn is if there are any washers between the hinge and the hood at the front bolt where it bolts to the hood. Washers between the hinge and hood at that front bolt will bring a hood down that is sitting high in the back.

That is a nice-looking truck. Can you see if the springs have worn grooves into the hinges and therefore reducing the tension? That is a regular problem with 57 to 60 trucks.

It's got a '66 grill FWIW. That is one pretty truck!
What's the little t-bird looking badge on the fenders?

Yup, I figured out the grille thing shortly after buying it, probably while reading this forum. I don't mind it. It's definitely a 65 though, April build according to the serial number.

It's got a 406 FE in it, the bird is a "406" emblem.

There’s a place that will renew stock hinges, but have never used them. Anyone here have experience with them? Found a link using the search function:

Installed aftermarket hinges on my truck when I bought it. Worked fine for a bit but over time, hood would creep down further and further when open. Eventually got tired of ducking and modified and installed a prop rod I got from the pick and pull. Might not be for everyone but for about $10 does what it's supposed to do every time.

Finally had a look at my hinges. They look good to me, and everything feels solid enough. After having a better look at the mechanism, it does feel like the springs are just worn. ETA: No washers between the hinges and hood, either.
