1953 F100 Hood Springs
My truck has never had hood springs on the hinges and I'm tired of propping the hood open. Any chance I can get the springs on without separating the hood and hinges? I will have to order new springs online, so appreciate any guidance before I take the plunge.
Thanks

As far as I know, you'll have to remove the hinge to get the springs on. Do one hinge at the time. What I and others have done is use a strap hanging from the garage ceiling (I used the overhead door rail) to hold the back of the hood up and your prop to hold the front up. That way you can leave the hood in place and do it yourself.

Take the time and remove the hinges before starting on the spring install...winding the spring onto the hinge is a bit tricky and much better accomplished when the hinge is securely mounted in a vise. This is also a good time to clean the hinges and lube up the pivot points. Before you attempt to remove the bolts in the hood be sure to spray them with rust buster or similar penetrating oil. The anchor nuts in the hood won't tolerate too much twisting from a rusty bolt...no sense adding more work to your task.
