Need 1946-47 Ford Panel Fuel Tank

Happy Winter Solstice Day! I need a stock fuel tank for my 1947 Panel Truck. Does anyone have a serviceable tank I could purchase? I don't mind cleaning out etc. Just needs to not have any holes!

Alternatively, anyone know of a vendor who makes these? I have tried a few old Ford suppliers, with no luck for this relatively rare unit. Could the pickup truck unit be modified to work on the Panel?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks, Tom

My memory of what I have heard is the panel tank is specific to that body style. I have not heard of that tank being reproduced. You may have to repair what you have or fabricate one yourself.

Early in the process of getting my truck back into drivable condition, I took my old original deteriorated tank to a welding shop and had a new replacement tank fabricated. It cost about $300, which at the time seemed like a lot. Looking back, it was really money well spent. I've had my share of problems out on the road with my truck, but a clogged fuel system wasn't something I've had to deal with. As for the $300, I've grown sort of accustomed to bank account deductions like that. It's just too bad my wife isn't quite as desensitized.

Mid-Fifty has a panel gas tank for $459.50 in their 2018 catalog. This tank presumably fits 48 to 52 panel trucks. It may or may not work for you.

Good luck-
Jim

In my one ton 47 panel I used a tank from a '59 panel I found on craigslist. I'm guessing anything between these years should work. Mine only took minor modifications. And Yes, I have had many, many breakdowns beside the road blowing backwards through clogged fuel filters. I get to the jobsite to meet with the architect or contractor, my clothes stinking of gas and my breath is about the same. I had to go home and dig out my bottle of 'Old Granddad' just to start feeling ok.Todasy, older and wiser I use a 12 gallon red poly boat tank with a squeeze bulb for priming until such time as I may find a proper tank that is Totally CLEAN.

A little old but for anyone the comes across this post it may help.
I had a car tank no one made a replacement for and ATT no local shops would touch gas tanks, all old timers had moved on.
I found https://www.gastankrenu.com/ and they did their thing and the tank is in service for years now.
Dont remember what it $$ but if you have something they can fix it.
