Anyone out there know a good source for a set of the factory service manuals (hard copy or searchable electronic)? I've found some on eBay that are probably legit (but dang are they expensive), also seen some on a few other website that look like they could be scams (poor website construction and want you to enter a CC first thing).
Obviously a free download would be the best, but I'm good with paying a reasonable price if someone knows where they can be found? Thanks

They can be quite expensive for the hard copy Ford service manuals. I bought the wiring one when I did my swap off of eBay by just watching the listings until a used one came up. It was in pretty good shape. I think I paid like $50 for it. something like that. I never found free ones in electronic format but I alos saw several listings for the CD's. I like the paper copy because I don't have to have my computer sitting there while working on the X.
I'm happy to send you pictures of whatever page/system you'd need from the wiring one if that would help you out until you get whatever you get.
just be sure to get the completed set, work shop manual is 2 volumes, the wirings book and then the powertrain and emissions manual for whatever motor you have
Thanks guys, I just forked over $165 on eBay for a set (the two workshop manuals and the wiring diagrams). The set that had the 6.0 PSD control systems/ emissions book with it was over $300. I can live without that one until I get around to the Cummins conversion.
Post Edit: I found the 6.0 PSD powertrain/ emissions book in a separate listing by itself for $25, so I ordered that one up too. So about $200 total for the complete set. Seems expensive to me, but I intend to have the Excursion for a good long time.

I have searchable PDF manuals for a few of my other vehicles (including my tractor). I usually just print out the portion I need when doing something, mark it up, get it all greasy, then just throw it away at the end of the job. Hard copy manuals are nice, but you have to be more careful when thumbing through them with dirty hands.

Mine has a few grubby prints in it for sure. Only nice thing about electrical work is it's not super dirty.
There's nothing like having that paper book, and it being dragged all around the interior as you trace wires, and thumb through dozens of pages following the Ford flow charts......!!!!!
if you are going to do your own repairs
$300 is a bargain. especially considering 3/4 of what you read on the internet is simply incorrect.
While I haven't seen the contents of the Excursion manuals, I do have all the Ford manuals for my 2010 F250, I'm guessing (and hoping) they have similar content.
I have the factory service manuals for most of the vehicles I have, but this is by far the most I've ever paid for one. For my wifes Mercedes SUV I paid like $25 for the manual on CD, my dodge cummins truck was free download, the f250 was a free download, my kubota tractors manual was a free download, my suzuki motorcycle was a free download. It actually kinda surprised me that no one here had a link or source for a free download. But it is what it is, sometimes you gotta pay to play I guess.

free download is widely available but that isn’t what you asked for.
the electronic version is nowhere near as useful as the printed version, it is difficult enough to navigate the printed version, the free electronic one is worth what it cost

Yeah it was, look at the last sentence in the first post.
Doesn't really matter at this point though, I got impatient and bought hardcopies off eBay already.

It is the actual manual version, not a large PDF. Any/all volumes and sections can be printed off as a PDF though. Some have difficulty navigating it until they get used to it, so an FTE'r created a "tips and tricks" thread.
