I am putting period correct NYS plates on my 73 f100 because I like the look, I have a nos 1973 sticker that went in the corner of the plate but have no idea if it went on the front or rear plate. any example I find just shows to late off the vehicle one with a sticker one without.
Digging through my stash, found 62-63, 69 with stickers, 62-63, 58-59, 60-61, 48-49, bolt on, even back to 1917. A lot of those older steel plates didn't hold up well in the NY salt. Found I have a nice set of 1957 plates, which I'll see if a friend might want for his 57 Chevy. The plates that took a "bolt on year" were stamped (say) 62 lower rt corner. The following year you would get a metal stamping saying "63" which would be bolted on. I think this was when we had to renew the vehicle registration every year. I used to go to Greene County, NY to get my plates as they had my initials on them (GR). Back then each issuing county had their own abbreviation on the plates.
