I'd like a new aftermarket shifter with a brake interlock switch, or similar function. basically I'd like it to be like the auto shift in my 2016 F150, locking when in Park, Reverse, and Drive. any ideas would be appreciated.
I believe the locking idea works on the ability to lock the column shifter from moving unless you step on the brake pedal and turn the key and that moves a plunger switch to electrically unlock a device (?) to let the column shift. You have a lot going on under the dash of the 2016 Ford truck to be able to do that and not so much under the dash of an ol 66-77 Bronco. I would think you would have to come up with a device in similar design.
Most aftermarket shifters come with a neutral safety switch and a reverse light switch.
I figured it was a pretty tall order, I wonder what the closest thing is to it. I like the open gate design, I'm curious about the ratchet shifters, if they go into R, N, and D and then ratchet down into 2 and 1 from D. I've never really messed with them. mine has a C4 and I just don't want to bump it in and out of gears accidentally.
I had B&M Z gate shifter one time with the T handle lift/push to get thru the gears. It at least locked into park and then you have to lift/push up or down on the T handle to get it outa park and also to get into R, N, D ect...I think it would easily go from D to 1 and back to D.
But what a pain to get in one gear or the other if you was in any kind of hurry. Now you can take the T handle and the bar that does the locking out and then it's a easy slide shifter. But no mechanical safety to prevent going from D to R. But that works great on my rock crawler.
IMO same for a B&B Quick Silver ratchet shifter, I had one of them too, click click click...click click...click...pita. They are just setting on the shelf getting dusty for a reason. They will go back on Craigslist someday, and will NOT go back in any vehicle I own.
This is what I have on our mud truck. Of course it has a different pattern sheet. t is hooked ot a c-6 and it has switches you can put in which shifter position you want. It has a shifter gate and we ground a notch to keep it from going drive into neutral as we were shifting up thru the gears. Might look for used ones in big truck salvage yards. This in not the brand we have but it looks similar.
