Hello guys, do any of you know where a person might get a factory looking shifter boot for a 78-79 3speed overdrive cast iron side shift transmission? Or does anyone have the original part number?
I have a couple pictures below of an original boot and my original trim ring. After looking at the pic of an original one and my trim ring, it looks like a boot for a 4x4 transfer case shifter is very similar. Thanks in advance.
My original 78 3speed OD trim ring. Google image of an original boot.
I have a 1978 F150 Custom with the same transmission. The 4X4 transfer case shift boot will fit. I think I bought them from Bronco Graveyard or Dennis Carpenter. I have not had good luck with them lasting more than a year or two though. They seem to get dried and cracked in that time span and then start to fall apart. I mistakenly discarded the debris/heat shield that attaches to the shifter underneath the cab and I think that may be the cause. Been trying to figure out another solution for it.
Part #D3TZ-7277-A, I just checked Dennis Carpenter is out of stock.

Thank you very much for providing that information. I didn’t realize there was a shield for the shifter. I’ve not had a chance to get the truck in the shop and crawl under it yet. Maybe it’s still there.
