Hi i hope if we can help me
im looking information for my big truck rear axle 2- speed timken 5800-M-429
im search the information of vacuum unit and overhaul
Might be tough sledding with a Timken. I searched but found nothing helpful. Eatons at least you can convert the vacuum to electric and find lots of references.
Welcome Martin. I'm not familiar with that particular model, but I've rebuilt SUDD's, SQHD's, et al, using this book: https://www.abebooks.com/servlet/Boo...0aAnz6EALw_wcB
Timken Detroit Axle Field Service Manuals published by Rockwell would be great if you could find one.
Also, if you can find an applicable Kenworth, Freightliner, International Harvester, or Peterbilt single axle truck service manual there would be a section that covers it.
I have the IHC big truck service manual, I'll check it.
Meanwhile, you can scroll through this: http://www.hansenwebdesign.com/truck...ear%20Axle.pdf
Note: The electric and vacuum two-speed shifter is the same for Eaton and Timken.
The below linked manual for the Timken-Detroit Hypoid Two Speed Double Reduction axle might be useful to you. I also found good info in my 1953 edition Motors Manual. I have an earlier version of the axle having the manual shifter so I don’t have an answer to your electric shifter question. Stu
