Expedition off-road
I got my eye on a couple Expeditions to do some mild off road/ overland. I was wondering which generation Expedition is generally more off road capable.(gen1 97-02 or gen2 03-06) I would start barely more than stock and slowly make mods to be a better trail rig. I was just curious which is better out of the box.
Note: I know a Bronco would be a better rig, but every Bronco for sale around here is made of gold. I can get in an Expy for under $3K and start wheeling.

How far are you willing to go with modifying them? They are both IFS vehicles so you would have to do a straight axle swap if you want to get into serious offroading, have you considered an Excursion?
