How much can your f100 haul

I got a 66 f100 and I think I’m going to start using it to haul limestone on a flatbed I’m making for it. Most I’ve ever had in the bed is 2 302’s which is about 900 lbs but that’s also with the heavy factory bed. What’s the most y’all ever put in the back of your f100’s?

ps, I ended up painting her correctly and not using interior house paint lol, turned out very good

What you can haul and what is legal and safe are different. Back when I was a kid we used to haul 2000 lbs on a short bed F100 which was well over the factory GVW and over the weight class of the state registration. Never seemed to hurt the truck though.

It's both simple, and more complicated than one might think. One factor is the tires, or load rating. Then the axle rating - has it been swapped after 50+ years?

And the leaf springs. Does it have overload or helper springs? Sometimes, people remove leaves for a softer ride.

Also keep in mind the total payload includes you, the operator and your fat ***, any passengers, tool boxes etc. While 1,000 pounds is a "half ton", when I sharpened my pencil it seemed to me 1,250 pounds is what we're looking at.

Yes, they will most definitely haul way, way more than that, sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do, but, it will also trash things like the wheel bearings, both front and rear. That's when we see soon see differential oil seal leaks, or worse - rear axles and wheel assemblies separating from the axle tube.

I've had 1,700 lbs in my F100. 3spd/OD w/ overload springs and it walked it along easy. Not a whole lot of sag either. Allow extra stopping distance.

Thanks for the reply’s! Unfortunately the guy I was buying a flatbed from backed Out of the deal so now I’m back on the hunt or I might just make one. I also have disc brakes in the front and a brake booster so I’m not very worried about my brakes. They stop on a dime and sometimes it’s kind of scary how good they work!😂

I’m not saying this is intelligent, but I used to work more physical labor so I abused the truck at times since I didn’t have another option. My only vehicle was my ‘64 f100 for about 6 years. My brakes have been updated to power disk on the front.

The heaviest thing I ever put in the back of my f100 was a wet pallet of sod. It doesn’t sound like much, but I was told at the sod farm it could weigh up to 3,000 pounds. I hauled a few more pallets since then but they’ve all been noticeably lighter than that specific one. I also put 2,000 pounds of “garden mix” (dirt/sand mixture) in the back like a month or two ago.

I don’t advise hauling more that what the truck is rated for and drive slow.

I have hauled a cubic yard of limestone in my '65 f100. the rear springs went flat and the axle was on the bump stops. From then on I hauled a 1/2 yard. That was still a good load but much more manageable.
