Guys, looking for some guidance on how to take care of a flattened paint finish. My truck is painted with icolor Hot Rod Black 1401 with a flattening additive. The suppler told me not to use a car wash that contains wax so I've been just using water to clean the finish but that doesn't remove road film/oil,ect. Any suggestions on to clean this paint without screwing it up?
Thanks.
Nice looking truck. I don't have an answer for washing your truck. However, looking at your exhaust tips to running board relationship and wondering how that might look for my truck. Any chance you could show a couple of pics with a side profile and a close up of the back half of the truck with the exhaust tips. You could PM me if you like.
Hi Marten, passing on a few pics of my exhaust. Got the pipe from Summit....... 2-1/2" with 45* bend & welded in another pipe for the duel look. then painted with VHT.
Not much response on my paint question so I might go over to the 48-56 truck forum and repost ...... those members are a knowledge bunch of folks, maybe get answer there.
Good luck with your Hot Rod project.
Thanks, I'll make a trip to the local auto parts store and see what they offer for wax & silicone free car care products...... plain water works ok for dirt, dust but doesn't budge the oil spots.
Number 7 car wash soap...been around for 50+ years, it's best you can get and has anti-water spotting agents in it which until you have a black paint job you will never appreciate this enough.

N0 7 will ruin a matte paint job. There is silicone in the formula. The paint will have blotches forever.

I don't see that in the chemical composition... but perhaps it would be best if he called the paint mfg to obtain their recommendations for a proper soap, etc.
As the labels say "try in a spot not seen" first.
Now I know most say not to use plain old liquid dish soap as it can hurt the wax that is on paint.
Being you don't have wax on that paint job could use it but again try in a spot not seen.

Amazon order came yesterday with the No.7 wash ... was a nice day today so I tried it out. Followed instructions and tried it on a small area first & worked grate. Did leave slight water spots but good rinsing & towel down took care of that issue. This stuff took care of the road film & everyday oily spots on my trucks paint finish so thumps up!.....thanks for your suggestions & input guys, I appreciate it.

I'm glad it worked well for you!!!! Sometimes 9most of the time) the old school stuff works the best and is also the lest expensive! FYI- I typically use at a much less amount than recommended.... typically about 1 tablespoon for a 3 gallon bucket..... if the vehicle is really dirty, or winter time too... I use hot water and the results are incredible!
