I am about ready to get tires and wheels for my 1953 F100. The last time my truck was registered and on the road was 1983, after all these years the tires and wheel that came with the truck pretty much need to be replaced. It currently has the L78-15 stock tires. I am going to change from the stock look to more of a Cragger SS look, though Cragger's are a little pricey for me right now. Also looks like a P235/75 or P255/70 tire will be a close match to the L78-15's.
My biggest concern is that the current 15" rims don't work with the front disk brake conversion kit, the rims hit the calipers and grind on them when they turn. I did some measurements last night and it looks like a 16" rim will work, and if the rim is designed differently, it will work.
So, when you did your front disk brake upgrade, what size wheel did you go with? Will a 15" wheel still work, just need it to be shaped differently? What size tire did you go with to ctry and match closely to the L78's
I would suspect that 16" should clear most discs unless you have bigger ones for some reason . I went with 17" s because I wanted a slightly more modern look but really don't care for the look and ride quality of 20"s or similar and because of my very large upgraded PBR c4 brake kit . American racing torque thrusts were fairly reasonable when I purchased mine .
NewClimber,
Whose disk brakes do you have installed? Some brake manufacturers have diagrams on their website to illustrate the dimensions of their kits. I installed Wilwood disk brakes on my truck and used their kit diagrams to figure out the diameter of wheel I needed. I actually sent the diagrams to American Racing's tech line and got their suggestion on wheel size. The wheel manufacturers tech support can help you with what will fit their wheels. They both want to make a sale so use their tech support.
I installed my brake kit from Speedway. I don't remember seeing diagrams only the install instructions but can look deeper.
I like the 17" wheel
I am going to swing by a tire shop today and see what they can do for me. I think they are going to want the yr/make/model which usually doesn't get me very far on a project car.

EBEAR: Do you know what size tires you have on the 17" wheels? I like the look..
I picked up a set of 17" wheel and brought them home, wheels only just to make sure they fit before I put tires on them. The tire shop is spec'ing me out tires 245/65R17. Using some online calculators, it should be very close to the Z78R15 size that are currently on my truck. I like the current look and stance,
This is a good sum of $$$ to put out so want to get this right

I wanted to " fill " the wheel wells reasonably well and keep the big n little look so the fronts are 225-50-17 and the rears are275-55-17 keeping in mind that my front is lowered quite a bit .
