Hello, newbie here, No Boost, help!

Hi I am new on this forum, but I am going to dive right in with a problem LOL.

First off I have a 2000 F350 7.3 dually 2wd 248K miles, pretty stock truck other than I run a CTS2 for the gauges and 3" turbo back no cat S&B intake and a wicked wheel.

I am getting ready to do a trip and pickup a truck in Texas, 1987 F350 gas crewcut 4x4, and tow it back to San Diego. So I figured I would change out the intercooler boots as there is oil around them and replace the o-rings in the turbo pedestal as there is a leak there. Well while I was in there I figured I would change the up pipe from stock to the flange type so I got a kit with the collector as well and got a Banks Big Head.

Well I got everything back together ( my first time working on this truck other than oil and trans fluid/fiter changes) double checked everything and started her up. Started right away but the idle did not seem right. I went for a short drive, maybe 1.5 - 2 miles and the CTS is reading 0 boost on the screen, all the other parameters are good. I did notice when I put the truck into reverse there was a delayed response and then a good on and off surge, weird, never did that before.

Came back double checked all the fluids, they were good and just a look around the engine compartment, everything looked good to me, I don't really know what I'm looking at though LOL. I checked the passenger side as I left the inner fender off just in case I had a problem and everything looked ok. Everything I can see looks good, but I cannot see where the up pipe collector meets up with the turbo, I checked as best I could with a mirror and flashlight but hard for me to tell.

Is there any way to check for leaks that would be preventing me to build boost? I tried brake cleaner around the CAC boots but nothing, I don't know if that would even do anything on a turbo, but I checked anyway.

Any help would be great, thank you in advance

Did you get this fixed? Thought I'd get in to bring it back to the top. Sure the gauge is reading right? Check your work. If you didn't get the back of the turbo lined up right it will leak there. And if you have old up pipes, those donut gaskets are leaking for sure. Look up leak detector and make one if you can't find out what happen.

So you had the turbo off and installed bellowed up pipes? Like Chet said double check the connection at the back of the turbo where the pain in the butt clamps lives. see if it's actually mated correctly. Also make sure the EBP valve actuator arm is connected.

Did yo stuff rags in any holes while working on the engine? You would not be the first to have left one in causing issues.

Ok so I went back and checked the spider first, but it was good. Checked the up pipe collector to the turbo and that was not even close!! Ended up loosening the new bellowed up pipes from each exhaust manifold and the drivers side from the collector. It was a bit frustrating as you cannot see anything and it is all by feel but after a bit I finally got it using a bungie cord to help hold it in place. Tightened everything back up and went for a drive. The truck has never ran so well!! It has much better throttle response than before and builds boost much more quickly and holds it, I think the banks big head actuator/wastegate has something to do with it, along with getting rid of all the leaks. I am going to fab up something so I can pressurize the system and check absolutely everywhere for even the tiniest leaks after I get back from Texas

Thanks to those of you that chimed in!

Glad you got it. Feels nice when the truck performs the way it should.

I was hauling a 1979 F250 4x4 on a big tex 20' flat bed to Las Cruces, going up the Dragoon grade in New Mexico, the truck was pulling a long grade 20psi Boost, 1024 EGT, 153 TFT, 215 EOT, 70 IAT @2566rpm 80mph readings were just before the crest and not even full throttle.

I was really happy, previously the most boost I would get on this grade was 16psi for short bursts, lower mph, higher rpm and higher engine oil temps
