Every model year, the manufacturers of HD pickup trucks continue to try to out pace one another. It's nothing new to the automotive market and nothing more than than their seeking to increase their respective market share over their competitors.
With that, prices have and will continue to increase year on year as we consumers continue to accept the increases and buy their products. Think of HD trucks like mobile phones, the prices are ever increasing while they still serve the principle purpose of being a mobile phone only with a few more features some of which are truly convenient, while the majority of other features are not used or better remain relatively useless in terms of the principle purpose for owning and using one.
So with that, lets see what FTE member consensus may be with respect to the purpose or need to purchase a new, and the latest version of a HD pickup truck;
I was, and i still am, of the thought that i wanted the truck for doing what it's good at.. Towing heavy trailers! all the Extra's that they put in to making this a Hi tech vehicle is not something that interests me .. the 2017 Xlt I bought has all the features of the Platinum as far as ability to work. saved over 30,000 on the price tag and was able to replace the features i wanted most, With the head unit i put in, tires and rim package and little extra's i am more then happy ..and not have the problems associated with some of the hi tech gadgets! I still drive like i was taught and don't need a vehicle telling me that there is a car beside me. I can back up a trailer with out having 4 camera's to assist me and the no issues with leaks and tech issues that does not affect daily driving. Love the truck just the way it is!!! MY 2 cents!!
I have had my 2003 7.3 for 12 years with zero problems, just routine maintenance. It was time for new truck that could tow more. Poll doesn’t have enough options.
I usually replace at 10 years but I kept the last one for 14 just because it was so trouble free. Never thought I’d say that about a 6.0 but I must have gotten a good one. I’m sure obsessing over temps & pressures, religiously scrubbing the cooling system and providing a never ending flow of clean synthetic oil had nothing to do with it!
We will see if I go as long again... If I can buy an electric truck in 5 years that will do 100 miles with a trailer... I will probably try to keep this as primary long hauler until age 15.
I'm going to miss this 17'. Its been an amazing truck for every one of its 33000 miles. We've bought a new 5th Wheel so we need a 450. I'm fearing the asswhip'n I'm gunna take on the 20'.
