Hey guys,
I have been doing so much research and I could use some guidance.
I have a 1990 f350 7.3 idi xlt lariat.
Having hard clutch and hard time getting into low gears and reverse especially. Feels like I don't have enough room with pushing the clutch down to disengage. And its hard as a rock.
I don't have any play in the fire wall. I replaced the clutch slave cylinder hoping that would help but then realized I was missing the strap, I have ordered a new one from Ford itself and waiting to install.
With having so much time to research before picking up my new slave today, I also ordered, the heim joint modification, the clutch swing arm, a new clutch fork and bushings for the clutch pedal assembly.
So where to start eh. obviously gonna put in new slave, should I just do that and get it bled and see if any change or should I go ahead and make all the other parts go in? the part store said I can return anything I don't use.....
Thanks in advance and really looking forward for some advice.
have you checked the firewall for flex when the clutch is depressed?
on my 88 the firewall was so bad the clutch master cylinder would push out almost 1/2 inch when the pedal was depressed.
Doubling down on the firewall flexing. Mine was virtually impossible to tell it was moving, only the cracked sealant under the cowl was obvious. I'd consider doing the "large firewall reinforcement plate" while you have everything apart for the heim joint mod anyways. You're gonna have a lot easier time pulling the pedal assembly out to get your new swing-arm on as it is.
Edit: my clutch was grabbing 1/2” off the floor before I did both mods, now it grabs about halfway through the throw. I didnt replace the master or slave.
Alright, so I replaced, the slave cylinder again, the clutch fork and also the swing arm on the clutch peddle assembly and what a difference this has made! Which one fixed the problem, not sure I am thinking the fork or the swing arm.
Thanks for the input.
