47 ford flat head v8 coupe

I have a 47 ford im working on. from what i know the engine was rebuilt 3 years ago and has not really be driven much. it started and drove for about 5 miles and when it go close to home it died at a stop sign and had a hell of a time getting it home. i can get it to start with manually holding the choke and moving it back and forth. as soon as i release the choke it dies out. when it is running with choke closed its a real lopey idle. just trying to find out what it might be. dont know much about the car just trying to help a friend get it running for her dad.

I would check the fuel pump; there is a screen in the glass bowl, or should be. There is also a paper filter available for inside the glass bowl. Some debris could have flowed into the carburetor. So, you have to check and clean along the whole fuel line route.

As stated, the whole fuel system needs checked out, make sure the gas cap is venting, if all is good, the fuel pump rod on those old fords were known to wear off, and the pump won't get a full stroke.
