I just picked up my truck from the shop where they put wheels and tires on. They shouldnt have been fooling with the engine/carb at all but anyways theshop was closed when I picked it up. My truck will not idle down. When I was driving home I noticed it was idling fast it was even hard to come to a complete stop at a stop sign. But it will not idle down now. If I pull up on the pedal it will start idling perfect, or if I close the choke plate most of the way it will idle down. If I close the choke plate all the way it dies, obviously. So my UNEDUCATED guess is that the choke is stuck open. This should be an easy fix but Im not that great at these things. If some one could walk me through this it would be greatly appreciated.
Well I just put the air filter cover etc all back on it then went to move it out of the way of my wifes car and now it wont start at all. Just cranks and cranks. I figured maybe I flooded it when I was messing around with the choke plate etc so I let it sit for over an hour and it still wont start. This is very frustrating it was running great just idling waayyyy fast. It has always started very easily. Does it need to sit longer or is there anything else I can do??
Thanks alot guys its runnin like a champ again. Buddy came over and had it running in 5 minutes made me feel stupid but happy at the same time. Choke was adjusted waaayyy off.............
After reading what you wrote, I offer this for your info.
When the choke plate is CLOSED the engine shold be idling fast. After it warms up and under normal operation, the choke plate should be OPEN and the idle should be the normal, slower idle speed.
The reason it the idle speed slowed when you closed the plate is that you cut off the air supply and over richend the mixture. An over rich mixture doesn't burn well so the idle speed dropped off.
