Front End Clunk... I guess is my turn now...

Hey guys,
I've been trying to trace a front end clunk on my truck... mainly when turning left. If going straight and over a bump or turning right, sometimes. The worse is when turning left into a driveway or a bump on the road.
I've disconnected my sway bar from the end links and went for small test drive, noise still there. Got sway bar end links out and inspected in a vice, all solid.
I've jacked it up and used a pry-bar under the front tyre to check for any ball-joint play, all solid.
Replaced my track bar bushings last week, noise still there. Replaced my drag link setup, noise still there.
Today I noticed the following while under the truck:
- front drive shaft has a small play. If I nock it with my hand or grab it and move up and down, mainly near the dust boot, it makes a little clunk noise... it is normal?
- the hanging rubber ring on the picture... is it my front axle seal gone? Both left and right are like that... they are literally hanging loose... Any connection with the noise?
- if I grab my front calipers and give them a shake, there is a slack there too... are they supposed to be like that too? Or should they be solid?

Many thanks!

Clunk when turning is probably ball joints. Check tie rod ends also.

Very small amount of play in shaft is normal.

Hanging rubber ring is merely a dustshield. The real shaft seal is at the pumpkin. Not the end of the world but not great for the axle tube if you drive in mud up past the axle.

Caliper should be able to slide on the pins but significant wobble is not good.

Nice one, haven't heard of those before, tks!
So what else should I do while I'm there? Axle seal, bearings? What about that tool needed to install the axle seals? Any alternative?
Many thanks

Yes do the seals, no the tool isn't needed. I used a piece of PVC, 3.5" I think? Don't remember. Also, make sure you use the proper torque sequence the new joints. And yes, that is 99% your clunking you are hearing.

If you do decide to try out the bearings, do not let the parts store guy tell you that you must get the whole assembly.
Just have them search for Timken B2110 or just B2110 bearings.
Depending on where you buy them and brand, they are $7 to $12 each wheel. You can press the old out of the hub assembly and press in the new. I believe it is a 21 or 22MM socket on a 1/2 ratchet extension is the size you need to hammer out the old and in with the new. They change out pretty easy so a press is not a must.
Cheap replacement even if it isn't needed and if you already have it apart.

Hey @BillyBob69 @BBslider001 tks for the info.
I'm in UK, so will probably be getting the parts from RockAuto.
It looks like the bearings are not too expensive, so better replace them while I'm there considering the age of the truck.
This is what I came up with so far, on top of the ball joints:
  • axle needle bearing
  • locking hubs yellow o’ring + outer black o’ring
  • inner nuckle vacuum seal (dana spicer?)
  • Axle dust seal (axle housing)
Anything else?
