Hey guys haven’t been on here in a while. I have been hauling water a lot lately since we’ve had such a dry year. I have been using the 1023 tunes and have been using the Cummins killer tune as it has the best power getting up the hills and such around here. Is it ok to use the tune for everything or should I be using the towing tunes? Just don’t want to hurt the truck and egts have been staying below 1200f
I had some 1023 tunes in the truck I bought before he was Frankenstinky. They do a good job of keeping things reasonable in there - so it's really a matter of having the EGT probe on the exhaust manifold elbow to make sure it's accurate. I would personally add the second EGT gauge on the passenger side for a second opinion while towing in a race tune.
Ok thats about what I was figuring. I wouldn't mind getting a second egt gauge but it would be another $150 or so. Wish I could get a edge monitor or something but money doesn't allow that right now. Most the time I can keep the Egt's in the 1000-1175 range pretty easily. Ive been hauling 1,000 gallons of water roughly 8,000lbs just of water. Probably just over 20,000lbs loaded.
What Walleye Hunter said. Tunes were made with certain situations in mind but you can run any tune you want any time you want as long as you keep your parameters in check.
