Hello, I am new here so I will keep this short and sweet, I picked up a non running 03 f350 7.3 for a little bit of nothing, I have a few wires that are out of place, along with the "Remote start" wire yellow and blue with a quick disconnect running down the passenger side fire wall, I have also removed the terrible after market radio that was in it, I am thinking that the ignition switch is the issue, as the previous owner placed a push button start on the truck, I can get the starter to turn, and it turns the engine, i have replaced the IPR, ICP, cam sensor and had a HPOP test done and it was fine, mechanic who did the test also mentioned Gem module would not respond but from looking around i never found the gem module, dropped the fuse box and everything to look for it, took the radio back to the factory harness, They had spliced so many different color wires in, not to mention they went down through the door seal instead of a gromet for the push button start, what are the options that could be wrong here, I have checked fuel, i am getting power to fuel pump, I am getting oil pressure, I hit the starter button, starter turns regardless if key is turned or not "Bypassed" dash lights up with key turned but truck wont start, any ideas? am i right in feeling its in the ignition?
Second, it's always trucks that get the worst wiring hack jobs, ain't it?
I'd continue doing what you're doing, yank off anything not designed by Ford and get it back to stock. We can help diagnose a stock truck a heck of a lot better than hacked truck.
Prolly a good idea to get yourself a way to read codes and sensors. Seeing what is going on helps a lot. If you have an android phone get either Torque Pro or Forscan apps plus a bluetooth OBD adapter. I've had luck with
but http://www.obdlink.com/mxbt/ is killer. Once you get past the learning curve it will be very helpful. Plus you can use them for gauges to monitor the engine.
An '03 will not have a GEM, it will have a VSM.
Does the wait to start light come on for 10 seconds when you try to start? Could be as simple as a shorted fuel bowl heater. Pull the wire off the back of the fuel bowl, replace the fuse (I forget which one) leave the wire off and try to start. Same fuse powers the PCM so if it blows, no go, no how.
And if the batteries are too weak it won't start. Got a way to charge them?
Check the ignition ground here’s one of 2 grounds I had to repair on my truck due to a poor remote starter install. I’ll try to get a pic of the exact one coming from the ignition tomorrow. The truck would not start or start than turn off before the repair. Before ...way to cut the ground at the plug After

have charged and tried jumping, no go, I have heard this truck start once, well, when i plugged the fuel bowl heater in it popped my breaker, Could it really be that simple? but i will go take a look at the truck in the AM, its about 30 minutes from home, because i have yet find start it lol, But luckily I have a service truck to work out of, I am good with gas cars but diesels i am lost lol

Man I do not envy you with that writhing mass of snakes wiring. Great pics, thanks! Moar!
These engines are pretty far off the gas fuel rez. It's about fuel delivery, oil pressure (!) and injectors firing when told. I'll add a basic HUEI diagram below. Wrap your head around that process.

Leave the fuel bowl heater disconnected.
yea its gonna be rough lol but shouldnt be too hard, have another f250 for reference too
also by "Remote wire" i didn't mean a remote start, i ment the Yellow and blue wire that runs to the starter its on the 02 but not the 99 or other 02 that i have looked at, its a quick disconnect wire aswell, heres a link to what im talking about
I did not see a GEM in my 02 It was my impression know I was for 01 and before... However I did see my electrical and Dash need to be Soused up Does anybody know if he works for cases of good beer lol
Lol if it was gas i could diagnose it in minutes im sure its a fuel issue on electrical side at this point, im getting her towed to my uncles house to have a nice shady place to work on it, instead of the middle of a field working on a black truck on 110 degree days lol

I do
This is what I did to our 5th wheel over the winter. Complete boondocking setup now... Just did a lot of reading, research and even more trial and error.
Keep at it, take your time and you will get it done right.
I know it seams menial, but have you checked the fuel filter? Could the fuel system have air in it? Just a couple simple things that would drive ya nuts!
