i just tried to install my big rear window and the seal would not go on right. i used a seal from dennis carpenter,the same as the front window seal.no problem with the front seal,went right in.i have spent almost a hole day and still did not get the window in.it seem's like the seal is to small,it come's off on the end's where the window curve's on the corner's.any help would be great.thanx/scott.

Is this the same truck having the door alignment problem? If so, did you see it before it was torn down and did it have glass installed and doors hung OK?
Either of the two symptoms alone could be a number of things. But both problems together make me wonder if the cab has been tweaked, or really rusted and when they patched it together it's no longer straight.

hey brett,no the cab is not rusty at all.the problem is tring to get the seal to just stay on the glass.it want's to come off as soon as you get it on,like it's to small.i am going to call d/c tomorow and see what they have to say.thanx/scott.

 

Try letting it heat up in the sun to make it more pliable (like you'd do with a bra for the front end of a car/truck). Or, if sun is not available, try a heat gun or hand-held hair dryer and gradually warm the seal until it becomes flexible/pliable enough to work into place.

Sorry, I totally misunderstood you. Yes, heat up the rubber gasket to get it pliable and it will stretch.

hey daryl,i had it setting out in the sun for about 4 hrs.to warm it up.that didn't work, so i tried soaking it in warm water.that didn't work either.i think they may have packaged the wrong seal.i really don't know,but this is crazy.the front window went in so easy,this does't make sense.i will let you guy's what happen's when i do get it in,ihope.thanx again/scott.

Sounds like you've done your dilligence in attempting to put in the rear window seal. I'd contact where you bought it and ask for an exchange, because it IS possible you got a blem or the wrong year seal packaged and sent to you. Stuff happens!

Here's a little ditty that hopefully will lift your spirits:

I ordered all new glass for my '59. A guy who has built hot rods for 30 years and I were installing the seals, front and rear. Front went in fine (sound familiar so far?). The rear went in, but real funky and it just didn't "look" right. After scratching our heads and brain-freezing over it for 30 minutes, the light finally went on... we had the darn thing in backwards! There's one side of the seal that has a longer "lip". We had that facing outward and it's supposed to be inward toward the cab. Our first clue might've been the window "sill" or ledge inside the cab on the rear window. Dowt!!!

PS - BTW, are you using the rope kit to install the rear window seal? That seemed to make it zip into place real easily. The last option for you, I guess, would be to have an auto glass shop install it for you. Shouldn't be more than $40 max. and many are mobile. Just an after-thought...

 

i talked to dennis carpenter's this morning, and they are sending me out a new seal.they don't know what is wrong with it but they taking care of it.very nice people.i gotta get to work,thanx again/scott.
